Let go, and Let God.

Below, I’ve pasted the lyrics to the song by Dewayne Woods, titled “Let Go.” Many times in life, we allow ourselves to become so consumed with the demands, issues, challenges, and opportunities that fill our lives that our spirits become overwhelmed with stress, anxiety, fear, doubt, and so many other debilitating thoughts. In our nature is the attempt to “take control” and assert power over everything; yet, this song reminds us that sometimes, it is crucial for us to “let go, and let God have His way” in our circumstances.

This past week, I experienced this truth.

As many of my roles- from graduate student, to designer, to entrepreneur, to mentor, to friend, and more- clashed, and commitments piled to fill my waking hours, the exhaustion of my energy and happiness was more than evident. I reached a state of frenzy and anxiety unlike any other I’d experienced, and this yielded an emotional breakdown midweek. And, as much as I desired to keep it private, many noticed that something—that usual spark— was missing.

The missing piece of my week was God.

He was nowhere in my week- nor, was Faith. In fact, for weeks, I’d started to become lazy with my faith, my work, my gifts, my life. I didn’t read the Word. I didn’t follow-up on commitments. I didn’t maintain consistency. I didn’t pray. I didn’t seek guidance. I left these areas void in my assumed busyness, thinking I could handle everything myself.

Needless to say, I was wrong.

Though God would never give us a load heavier than what we can bear, He does sometimes give us tests to see if we would remember to come to Him. This past week was my test, and though it took days for me to do so, surrendering and letting Him “have His way” became crucial.

I share this song and story to encourage you guys to not try to handle your circumstances by yourself.

Understand, it is okay and sometimes critical to “let go” and not play super(wo)man in our circumstances. God wants to be there for us, but we have to be willing to accept Him and trust Him. So, as we venture through this week, let’s relieve the stress and anxiety, and let’s focus on the favor that rests on our lives.
